PUNJABI CHANA DAAL – HOW TO MAKE PUNJABI CHANEY KI DAAL

Hello everyone! I am true-blue food addict! Its true. I mean there has got to an actual medical condition called ‘Food Addiction’! Each night when I go to bed, I think about what I am going to eat the next morning. Each morning after breakfast, I start planning on what I will eat the next and so on! Food is what gets me going. I look forward to the next day for a lot of reasons but most importantly, for food! And as much as I miss food that my mom used to make, I try to recreate the magic that she did in the kitchen. I remember when I was back home in India, I used to crinkle my nose whenever mom told me that we had daal for dinner! I secretly liked the daals, but was never comfortable accepting it. I don’t really know why! Chaney ki Daal was one of the those things. Now that I will have to cross oceans to eat mom-made Chaney ki Daal, I realize how delicious it really was!

Chaney ki Daal is called Split Bengal Gram in English. But whatever name you call it, it is delicious and packed with nutrients. Chaney ki daal is rich in protein, sodium, potassium and carbohydrates. Very nutritious, isn’t it?

The secret to making some really delicious Chaney ki Daal is adding heaps of garlic. Trust me!

It is a really quick and tasty recipe. I usually make it when I am in the mood for some garlicky comfort food. Some garlicky Indian comfort food. This goes very well with rotis or rice. Rice being my food of choice.

Check out my recipes for Chhole Masala, Pao Bhaji, Creamy Mushroom Masala and Baingan Bharta.
